Apologies

Apologies from Derek Heron, Ewan Sutton, Derek Rankine, Davy Armstrong, Ian Crosbie, Andy Hutchinson and Bill Cringean were noted.

1) Minutes of Annual General Meeting 1995

Colin Taylor reported that he did not have the Minutes for the 1995 AGM but produced a copy of the AGM Minutes 2005 which were approved (MP/KW)

2) Correspondence

Sandy McNay said that he had received notification of the following items:

  • a letter from Sport Scotland rejecting our grant application for an artificial wicket
  • a letter requesting co-ordinators for the South of Scotland Junior Squads

3) Club Chairman's Report

Larry Brockwell said it had been a notable season because of the opening of the Pavilion and the success of the Second XI in gaining promotion to Western Union Division III.

He hoped that all members would continue to maintain the high standards of cleanliness in the Pavilion over the coming season, thereby enhancing the club's reputation with the Pavilion Committee.

He thanked all players who had been involved with the Pavilion and particularly the volunteers who had assisted with the provision of teas, which had been of an excellent standard and helped to boost club funds. More volunteers would be welcome next season as part of Larry's vision of creating a club with a family atmosphere.

Noteworthy performances on the field included Duncan Muir's century partnership and Ross Marscheider's selection for Scotland Under 15's and subsequent inclusion in the Scotland Under 17 squad.

Standards of behaviour on the field had been high with only a couple of exceptions. Our playing ability should always speak for itself without resorting to 'sledging'.

Larry went on to thank Sandy McNay for his overall support of the club and preparation of pitches, well assisted by Davy Armstrong. He also thanked Davy Douglas for his role as Treasurer and 'curator' of the Green Shed.

He wished everyone a successful season in 2007 and drew attention to the importance of fundraising efforts to support the club's contribution to the running expenses of the Pavilion.

4) Club Secretary's Report

Sandy McNay thanked Larry Brockwell for his report and gave thanks to everyone else who contributed to the running of the club.

He particularly mentioned the two past Captains for their efforts in getting teams together, Larry Brockwell and Davy Douglas, Davey Fallas and Colin Taylor for their youth coaching work, Derek Rankine for his work as Match Secretary, Duncan Muir for organising the club dance, the club's members of the Pavilion Committee, and all those who had helped with teas.

He stressed to individual members that everything they did for the club, however small, contributed to its further success.

5) Treasurer's Report

Davy Douglas handed out a summary of the year's accounts.

Technically the Club had made a loss of £2,000 but £1,200 had been taken up by one-off expenses for equipment. If current assets in the form of unsold cricket clothing and drinks were also taken into account, any overall loss was in fact minimal.

In spite of fresh promotion the Great Weather Lottery had not produced much extra funding but application forms are still available from Sandy McNay. Revenue from ball sponsorship was also a potential area for improvement.

Only two members had failed to pay full subsriptions but there was some feeling in the meeting that the charges for junior coaching sessions could be raised.

Davy said he had some concern about the condition of the score hut and especially the sight screens, which would definitely need attention before next season.

In the longer term he could foresee a need to replace the Green Shed with a more permanent building.

He thanked those responsible for the collection of match fees as the system had again worked well.

Larry Brockwell said there was a need for fundraising ideas and Mike Lumb offered to auction any suitable items donated by members on ebay, with the proceeds going to the club. Ideal donations should be easy to post.

Sandy McNay mentioned the possibility of a car boot sale at Kirkton and Colin Taylor suggested a pub quiz.

All members were asked to notify any further fundraising ideas to Colin Taylor.

Larry Brockwell expressed his thanks to Davy for his work as Treasurer.

6) First XI Captain's Report

In the absence of the Captain and Vice Captain, no report was available.

7) Second XI Captain's Report

Kenny Wilson, whose cat has died since the last AGM, said how satisfying it had been to win promotion in the manner we did by remaining undefeated throughout the whole season

He felt that the winning fightback in the second game away to Ardrossan had been decisive and set the tone for the rest of the season.

He praised the high standard of teas and the good wickets available at the Kingholm, and thanked everyone who had helped out over the season.

8) Election of Office Bearers

The following were elected, all unopposed:-

First XI Captain Duncan Muir Chair Larry Brockwell
First XI Vice Captain Jerry Goodin Secretary Sandy McNay
Sunday XI Captain Chris Brockwell Treasurer Davy Douglas
Fixtures Secretary Derek Rankine

It was agreed to approach Davy Armstrong about the Second XI captaincy before taking nominations for the post of Second XI Vice Captain.

9) Any Other Competent Business

Sponsorship

Duncan Muir outlined possible sponsorship deals with three local companies and it was agreed that each should be pursued.

Colin Taylor agreed to ask Mike Caughlin if he would be prepared to contact potential ball sponsors. However, all members should pass on to the Committee details of any businesses prepared to consider a ball sponsorship of £25.

Overseas Players

Colin Taylor will make initial approaches to our established contacts requesting the services of two overseas amteur players for the coming season.

Subscriptions

It was agreed that the level of subscriptions for the 2007 should be as follows:-

  • Playing Member - £50
  • Concessionary rate (Juniors, Students, Unemployed) - £20
  • Non playing members - £10
