Juniors – Hope for the Future

For a little-known club St Michael's have had more than their fair share of talented younger players achieving national recognition over the past few years. All-rounder Chris Brockwell led the way into the Scotland squad and both has played Scotland at under 13 and under 15 levels. More recently he was joined by Ross Marscheider, another all-rounder, who played for Scotland Under 15's during 2006.

Brockwell and Marscheider were also leading figures in the winning Dumfries and Galloway under 13 District squad in 2004,Ross plays a defensive shot for a change with Chris providing steady captaincy and performances throughout, while Ross narrowly missed out on a maiden century in the first fixture against Clyde! in 2006, they again helped the Under 15 District squad into a possible winning position, before being called into a Scotland fixture that coincided with the last two District fixtures. Ross destroyed Lanarkshire almost single-handed with an aggressive 127, then made an excellent 78 against Clyde on a tricky Kingholm wicket before Brockwell chimed in with 4-10 to finish the job.

You can see more detail on how they are all progressing at national level on another page.

Of course we are looking for the next generation of Chrisses and Rosses. Junior practice sessions will be taking place between 6.15 and 8.00 p.m. every Friday after the Easter holidays (weather permitting) at Kingholm Park. Just turn up on the day - we are always on the lookout for boys and girls who want to develop their cricketing skills. The cost is £1 a session.

St Michael`s Juniors play under the banner of the Loreburne Centre each week in the Dumfries Midweek League every summer. The idea is to include as many youngsters as possible together with a few "older hands" to help out.

St. Michael`s Juniors, plus one or two old lags and not-quite-so-young Aussies won the Midweek League Cup in 2004 and narrowly failed to repeat the feat in 2005 when they were overcome by the swashbuckling Shipwrecks XI in the Final.
