Player Profiles and Club Characters

Mugshot

Ahsanul Kishore

"Gunner" is our Bangladeshi Battleship who loves to hit the ball a country mile while batting in the Saints middle order. In the field he is like a whippet but has the attention span of a goldfish, often asking where he is fielding between deliveries! Off the park, Gunner works for a local Indian Restaurant where a cheeky smile welcomes all his customers. He has just become a new proud Daddy, and will probably be late for his own funeral.

Davey Armstrong

Solid clubman and slightly reluctant Second XI Captain last season, who helps prepare our pitches as well as bowling medium pace with good results for both First and Second XI.

Chris Brockwell

Left-arm finger spinner, occasional paceman and forceful right-hand batsman, who has represented Scotland at Under 13 and Under 15 levels. Now a consistent first team regular, Chris also captains the Sunday XI.

Alan Cringean

All round good guy and limpet-like Second XI opening batsman who has the ability to open out and play a long innings. His change to the heavy bat is starting to be productive. Hopefully work commitments will allow him to play regularly this year.

Davey Douglas

Long-term club stalwart, former Treasurer and retired allrounder, Davey unfortunately suffered a stroke last year but is likely to be watching several home games in future.

Mugshot

Davy Fallas

Wee Dave Fallas is our 2nd X1 skipper for the 2011 season but more importantly is the Head Coach of our thriving junior section. On his day Davy can be a destructive batsman capable of hitting the ball a country mile, which is handy as Davy's infamous tight hamstrings are not conducive to running quick singles! Davy's other interests include photography, touring Bonnie Scotland, and masochism i.e. following Queen of the South.

Mugshot

Jamie Gibson

Affectionately known as "Virgil", Jamie is DMPS Saints overseas amateur for the 2011 season. The Wellington teenager is an attacking opening batsman and a very handy bowler who bowls a heavy ball. When not playing for Saints, Virgil can be found showing off his "Disco Stu" moves in The Granary.

Mugshot

Corey Larsen

UK qualified player Corey hails from Wellington, New Zealand where he plays for Onslow CC, and captains the Wellington U18 side. Son of Gavin "Milkman" Larsen, Corey is a very accurate bowler who is expected to trouble many of the opposing top orders in the WDCU Premiership, and can score quickly batting in the top to middle order. Off the park, Corey is addicted to chocolate milk, and spending all of his money buying the lovely ladies of Dumfries free drinks.

Farrukh Shah

Talented all-round batsman, bowler and wicketkeeper who is capable of winning matches single-handed when he gets into his stride with the bat. A first team regular, he is likely to feature behind the wicket next season.

Mugshot

Derek Heron

Current St. Michael's Cricket Club captain Dekky Heron has played for Saints for over 20 years and we still can't get rid of him. Dekky is an opening bat by trade, but old age and a talented crop of youngsters has seen him slip down the order. Has batted in the middle order for the last couple of seasons. Off the park Heron can be frequently found in Green's with a bottle of Heineken cursing at the TV as his beloved Glasgow Celtic throw away another SPL title.

Kevin Kirkpatrick

A rare example of a player coming to the game in adulthood, Kevin made immense strides in his first two seasons and is emerging as a potential wicket keeper. Voted Clubman of the Year for his work around the ground.

Mike Lumb

A gritty early order batsman who does not give his wicket away easily and makes good runs in the 'v' once settled. His medium pace bowling has also proved successful on several occasions.

Graeme McKirdle

Big, powerful right arm fast bowler who has returned to First XI cricket over the last three years and showed that he still has the ability to trouble the best batsmen. His lower order hitting is an additional asset and he nearly made a century acting as a stand-in opener last year.

Sandy McNay

Longstanding doyen of the club and general groundsman, Sandy last year re-emerged as Chairman and Vice Captain of the Second XI for whom his tactical nowse and obstinate batting were invaluable.

John Muthiah

A right handed bat who is strong off his legs and also bowls occasional spin. Likely to play more regularly next season.

Ross Marscheider

Ross' inswing bowling performances were one of the few bright spots of the 2008 campaign, when he was elected First XI player of the season. A former member of various Scotland junior squads, he is also a stylish batsman who is starting to make more runs and takes some spectacular catches.

Duncan Muir

Diminutive, aggressive right hand batsman and excellent fielder who can destroy an opposition attack very quickly. Particularly strong square of the wicket.

Matty Moss

A willing club servant, Matty is a reliable fielder who can keep wicket and will be hoping to reproduce his useful midweek scores in League games.

Ram Narasegowda

A genuinely pacey bowler and aggressive bat whose 2009 season was unfortunately shortened by a broken shoulder in a friendly. Will hopefully play much more this year.

Mark Pagan

From the successful Annan Midweek XI, Mark is an uncompromising batsman who likes to get on with it and a more than handy pace bowler. A major force with the Second XI squad he will be captaining this year.

Mugshot

Derek Rankine

Derek "Shabba" Rankine is a club stalwart whose accurate medium paced bowling has graced Kingholm Park since God was a boy. Shab famously took 7 wickets for 2 runs in a game at Fortress Kingholm which was celebrated by a ceremonial flyover by the Red Arrows. Off the park Shab is on a mission to save the planet, is now a vegetarian and continually campaigns for animal rights.

Ben Rayen

Stylish bat and tricky medium pacer, Ben did not play much last season but has shown the ability to play big innings.

Raj Shyam

Raj shot to instant fame in the Small Clubs Cup First Round game last season, when he destroyed the opposition with a beautiful spell of away swing bowling to finish with 5 - 27. Hopefully work commitments will allow him more opportunity to demontstrate his skills with the ball this season.

Douglas Sloan

Promising young pace bowler who did not have much luck last season but has shown he can deliver long spells. No longer a 'rabbit' with the bat, he can deliver some powerful blows.

Alex Taylor

Once a threatening junior leg-spinner, Alex is now a tactical hitter and strong fielder with the Second XI. Very much a confidence player, he could make a lot more runs if he sets his mind to it.

Colin Taylor

Club scribe and qualified umpire. Over the years has become a turgid opening batsman who aims to bore the opposition into submission. Still takes the occasional good catch.

Mark Wharton (aka Harry Potter)

Skiddy pace bowler with a strong off cutter, but weekend work commitments mean he seldom actually appears on the pitch. Noted more for his legendary off-the-field achievements, he has willingly shared his flat with a succession of overseas players.

John Whitehouse

A solid lower-middle order bat and dependable bowler, whose slow medium style is often underestimated with fatal results.

Johnny Walker

Another Annan recruit, Johnny is a hard-hitting batsmen who made an instant impression in his first season with the Second XI and shot straight up the Averages table.

Kenny Wilson

The winner of the 2006 Division IV bowler of the year award with his accurate away swing. Still likely to trouble opposition sides with both bat and ball, Kenny is also a much experienced team captain and stand-up comic at our annual discos.
